  1. What services does Creature Care offer?

    Pet Visits

All of our pet visits include fresh food, water, litter change, grooming, playtime and a daily journal. In addition, we will water your indoor plants, bring in mail and newspapers, adjust lights and curtains and do a visual security check.

    Dog Walking

Our dog walking service provides regular exercise for your pet when you can't. We will do 5 walks per week at a special rate of $55 for clients who require our service on an on-going basis. As part of each dog walk, we provide fresh water and food replenishment, as requested. Maximum 2 dogs per walk.

    House Sitting

If you don't have pets but are concerned about your home security while you're away, we can do visits daily or every other day to check on your home. You should check with your insurance company to determine how often your home has to be checked in your absence. Our charge is $17 for each 30 minute visit.

    Overnights

Overnights are visits that begin between 8 and 10 PM and end between 7 and 9 AM in the morning (depending on the pet sitter's schedule). Our overnight visits include all of the services of our regular pet visits. In addition, dogs will be taken on a short walk or yard break in the morning and again at night. Overnights provide extra security for your pets and for your home in your absence.

    Veterinary Visits

We can take your pet to the veterinarian for vaccinations or illness. You are responsible for providing an appropriate transport crate and for arranging payment for veterinary fees. Creature Care's fee for each veterinary visit is $25.

    Pet Taxi

We can take your pet to the groomer, doggy day care, or an alternate destination. You are responsible for providing an appropriate transport crate and for arranging payment for any fees for grooming, day care, etc. Our minimum fee is $15 per taxi service one way. Surcharges based on distance may apply.

  2. Do you board pets? Can I drop off my pet?

We visit pets at home. We think that animals are happier at home than in a strange environment.

  3. What are your rates?

1 30 minute visit per day is $17.
2 30 minute visits per day is $29.
3 30 minute visits per day is $41.

For more information, go to Our Fees.

  4. How often will you visit?

We recommend 1 visit a day for cats and 3 visits per day for dogs. We will not go any longer than every other day for cat visits.

  5. What do you do when you visit my cat?

We will scoop the litter, feed, water and brush your cat. We will spend the remainder of the visit playing with the cat.

We will not let cats outdoors without a leash or some other way to ensure that the cat will come back.

  6. What do you do when you visit my dog?

We will feed, water, and exercise your dog. We can either do a walk or let the dog out into a fenced backyard.

We will not let a dog off leash when we do walks.

  7. What else is included in the service?

To let you know how your pets are doing, we will provide either a written log of your pets' activity, regular e-mails or we can leave voice messages on your home answering machine or cell phone. We will not make long-distance calls, except in cases of emergency.

As part of the service, we also do home security: take in mail, newspaper, adjust lights, curtains, water plants.

  8. What kinds of pets will you visit?

We will visit any domesticated pet: cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, rodents, reptiles, horses, etc.

  9. Do you charge by the pet?

No, we don't. However, if you have many pets, then we will recommend that you book longer visits (i.e. 45 minutes or 1 hour).

  10. What areas do you serve?

St. John's and Mount Pearl. Other areas depend on the availability of pet sitters at the time of booking. There may be a travel surcharge for services outside of St. John's and Mount Pearl.

  11. Are you insured and bonded?

Yes, Creature Care carries bonding and liability insurance for all of its pet sitters. All of our pet sitters carry proof of insurance.

  12. Do you keep client information confidential?

All client information, including security alarm codes, are kept in the strictest confidence.

  13. How do you manage client keys?

We code clients' keys either with colored dots or with pet names so that nobody can determine the address. Pet sitters either return client keys after the service has ended or hold them for future service.

  14. Will I get to meet the pet sitter before she comes to do the service?

Yes, the pet sitter will arrange a 30-minute interview visit with you, for which there is no charge. This is an opportunity for you and your pets to get to know our sitter and for her to become familiar with your pets' routines. She has a series of questions that she will go through with you during the visit. You should be prepared to provide a key to the pet sitter at this time.

  15. How do I pay for the service?

We prefer credit cards: Visa, MasterCard or American Express. We require a non-refundable 20% deposit at the time of booking for first-time clients. At the end of the service, the amount owing will be processed through your credit card and a copy of your bill will be sent to you in the mail along with your credit card receipt.

  16. How far in advance do I need to book?

The more notice we have, the better. Two weeks in advance is usually sufficient; however, holiday periods sometimes book up months in advance. We understand that emergencies do arise and we will do our best to accommodate you.

  17. What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?

You may cancel your service at any time. However, your deposit is non-refundable. Also, if you cancel after a visit(s) has already been made, then you must pay for those visits.

You may reschedule your service for a later date, providing we have a pet sitter available. Your deposit may be applied to future service.

  18. What happens if I'm delayed in returning home?

Please let us know ASAP if you need extra visits. We will do our best to accommodate but we may need to use another pet sitter if your original sitter is unavailable.

  19. What happens if I come home early?

We don't charge for unfulfilled visits if you return home early, but it's important that you let us know immediately if you will be arriving home early from your vacation in order for care to be discontinued. If you do not call us and we show up for our scheduled visit, you will be charged for the visit.

  20. What happens if my pet gets sick while I'm away?

All clients are required to sign a release authorizing Creature Care to seek veterinary treatment for their pet at their specified clinic. If the specified clinic is not open, and it's an emergency, Creature Care will seek emergency treatment at another clinic for your pet. In case of emergency, we'll bring your pet to the vet immediately. If we suspect that you pet may be ill, we will try to contact you and/or your emergency contacts prior to making a decision about seeking veterinary care. All veterinary fees are your responsibility. Creature Care charges $25 for each veterinary visit.

  21. What if there is an emergency in my home, unrelated to my pet?

We will try to resolve any situation that arises. We will try to contact you by e-mail or telephone to let you know what's happened. You will be billed for extra time at our regular rates.

  22. What happens if the pet food runs out while I am away?

We will purchase the type of food you have specified for your pet. You should reimburse the pet sitter directly for the food (she will provide a receipt). Alternatively, we can add the food cost to your final bill. You will be billed for the time it takes to purchase the food at our regular rates.
